Selective Expandable Post Summaries
We have all enjoyed using the expandable post summaries in our blogs or website for those long entries, however there are many times when it really isn't necessary. After receiving a comment asking how to do an expandable post summary on a select few entries in her blog, I thought this might be something you would also like to know how to remedy. Here is a new and improved method so you can be selective and won't see the words 'read more' at the end of every post when there really isn't anything more to read.
Follow the step-by-step instructions as previously posted for implementing Expandable Post Summaries using the Classic Template.
If you are using The New Version of Blogger you can Revert to Classic Template to use this same method or follow these instructions for expandable post summaries using The New Version of Blogger.
The portion of html code (in red) that you placed in your template which looks like this below the <$BlogItemBody$> tag. Delete the 'read more' in between the tags so it looks like this.
Save Template Changes.
Go back to the dashboard, click on the title of your blog, click on view blog and now click on the title of your post by going to previous posts in your sidebar. Your browser window will now display the URL of this post. Drag and drop this http:// address you see in the browser window to the desktop.
Go back to the dashboard to edit your post, drag and drop this http://address into the post at the area you want to separate the text for the expandable post summary. Notice this HTML code in red, you need to add this before and after the URL of this post. The example below is how the text will look for your post using the Edit Html.
Now when you click the 'Read more'..... in your published blog it will show the full post only for this selective expandable post summary. You have now Created a Clickable Link to implement the 'read more' in your selected post. For all future posts you will need to follow this same method when you want it to be expandable but at least you can be selective for each and every post.

Hi Sherry
It is working so well!!!!
I have tried this tonight and now all the posts on my page are so short.....
The first post however, shows the "Read me.." in the text when it has opened in a new window, but the others are all fine - That is in Mozilla -
When I view them in Explorer, all the ones that I have done tonight, also have the Read me... text in the actual post.
I am satisfied for tonight, will do the rest tomorrow.
If only Blogger can decide now that my blog is not a spamblog, or at least have the decency to e-mail me the reason they think it is, I will be so glad.
Stay well
Elsie
Elsie,
I'm so glad the selective post summaries are working well for you.
I was also identified as a spam blog when I first started this blog. Read this post to learn how to get rid of it. Identified as a Spam Blog
Sherry
Thanks for your visit. Any idea as to why the Read me... text is displayed in the new window?
Last night it was just in Explorer, but today it also shows in Mozilla in all the posts.
Elsie,
You may be confusing the two different posts I have listed. One is for Creating Expanable Post Summaries and the other one is Creating Selective Post Summaries.
Contact me by email to talk further.

Hey taphia,
Thanks for taking the time to leave me a comment. You're so welcome for any help I can offer.
Hi Sherry, I just found your blog today and it's truly amazing! I'm also experiencing the same problem Elsie has and I just emailed you. Hope to hear from you soon =)
It would be a lot easier if you did not have to go to this page and that page to do something at this blog...go to this blog then go to that blog...why not put it all on one page?
This post has been removed by the author.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
You are the first person I have had leave me a comment that is ungrateful for my "FREE" blogger help, sorry for any inconvenience!
I have created two helpful resource blogs, one blog for those still using the Classic Template and the other one for those using The New Version of Blogger. It is illogical to have this much information on one page!
There is a site map on both blogs for any particular topic of choice, try going there first, if all else fails you can contact me for personal assistance. It doesn't get any easier than that.
By the way, check your settings in blogger so that it shows your profile for others to enjoy your blog. :)
